Community Foundation Scholarships support student success

MANISTEE — Area students are beginning and continuing their college education supported by scholarships from the Manistee County Community Foundation.In 2017, the Foundation’s growing program awarded 23 scholarships totaling $27,700 and an additional $8,000 in renewal scholarships.

2017 Scholarship recipients by fund are as follows:

CASMAN Academy Scholarship Fund – $100 each

• Gregorio Cloutier, graduate of CASMAN Academy;

• KateLynn West, graduate of CASMAN Academy;

• Cody Lorenz, graduate of CASMAN Academy; and

• Brittany Mears, graduate of CASMAN Academy.

Disabled American Veterans Chapter 43 Scholarship Fund – $500 each

• Quinn LaMont graduate of Onekama High School, attending Central Michigan University; and

• Lucas Richardson, 2014 graduate of Brethren High School, attending Trine University.

Dr. Robert E. Fitch & Beverly J. Fitch Memorial Scholarship Fund – $300

• Lauryn Johnson, graduate of Onekama High School, attending University of Michigan

• Gleason Memorial Scholarship Fund – $2,000 each ($1,000 renewable award)

• Cassandra Solberg, graduate of Manistee High School, attending West Shore Community College;

• Kylie Davis, graduate of Manistee Catholic Central Schools, attending Central Michigan University;

• Jacob Stefanski, 2016 graduate of Manistee High School, attending Ferris State University (renewal scholarship); and

• Mallory Stefanski, 2016 graduate of Manistee High School, attending Ferris State University (renewal scholarship).

Karl & Irene Herrmann Family Scholarship Fund – $1,000

• Briana Larsen, graduate of Manistee High School, attending Grand Valley State University

Patricia A. Hughes Memorial Scholarship Fund – $500

• Kiara Bromley, graduate of Onekama High School, attending Calvin College

Kaleva Community & Finnish Heritage Scholarship Fund – $1,000 each

John Schaefer, graduate of Brethren High School, attending Harvard University;

Mary Voorhees, graduate of Brethren High School, attending University of Michigan;

Minger Family Endowment Scholarship Fund – $4,000 each ($1,000 scholarship renewable for up to four years)

• Joseph Tighe, graduate of Brethren Lake High School, attending Alma College;

• Audrey Padilla, graduate of Manistee High School, attending Alma College;

•Jeremy Bigalke, 2014 graduate of Manistee Catholic Central, attending Michigan State University (renewal scholarship);

• Seth Pefley, 2014 graduate of Manistee High School, attending University of Michigan – Flint (renewal scholarship);

• Katelynn Millard, 2015 graduate of Bear Lake High School, attending Grand Valley State University (renewal scholarship);

Ogilvie Memorial Scholarship Fund – $500

Doug Schlaff Memorial Scholarship Fund – $1,000

• Abigail Whitmer, graduate of Manistee High School, attending Mid-Michigan Community College

Eva Seng Memorial Good Works Scholarship Fund – $1,000 each

• Michele Haske, graduate of Onekama High School, attending Eastern Michigan University

• John Schaefer, graduate of Brethren High School, attending Harvard University

Elroy Urbanus Scholarship Fund – $1,000

• Avery Mullet, graduate of Bear Lake High School, attending West Shore Community College

“With growing support from our donors we’re delighted to be able to help more area students and their families with affording the increasing cost of continuing education after high school,” shared Laura Heintzelman, Executive Director for the Manistee County Community Foundation. “We’re especially excited about being able to expand our scholarship program further in 2018 thanks to the generous estate gift from Forest R. Minger, which included $2 million designated for the Minger Family Endowment Scholarship Fund.”
